General Questions

Do I need a GP referral for a private scan?
No, you don't need a GP referral to book a private ultrasound scan with us. You can book directly through our website or by phone. However, if you have been referred by your GP or consultant, please bring any relevant paperwork to your appointment.
How long does an ultrasound scan take?
Most ultrasound scans take between 15-30 minutes, depending on the type of scan. Pregnancy scans may take a little longer, especially 4D scans where we take time to get the best images. We always allow enough time for you to ask questions.
Are ultrasound scans safe?
Yes, ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique that has been used for decades. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, ultrasound doesn't use ionising radiation. It's considered safe for all ages, including during pregnancy.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area being scanned. For abdominal scans, two-piece clothing is ideal. We'll provide gowns if needed for your comfort and dignity.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book online through our website 24/7, or call us during opening hours. Online booking is the quickest way to secure your preferred appointment time.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, debit cards, and all major credit cards. Payment is required at the time of your appointment.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, you're welcome to bring a partner, family member, or friend to your appointment. For pregnancy scans, many couples enjoy sharing the experience together.

Pregnancy Scan Questions

How early can you detect pregnancy on ultrasound?
We can usually see a gestational sac from around 5 weeks. A heartbeat is typically visible from 6-7 weeks. For the most accurate results and to see a heartbeat, we recommend waiting until at least 7 weeks for early pregnancy scans.
When is the best time for a gender scan?
Gender can be determined from 16 weeks, though accuracy is highest from 18-20 weeks onwards. At this stage, the baby is developed enough for us to see clearly, but still has room to move into the right position.
What's the difference between 2D, 3D, and 4D scans?
2D ultrasound provides flat, cross-sectional images and is used for medical assessment. 3D ultrasound creates still three-dimensional images of your baby. 4D ultrasound is 3D with the addition of movement, showing your baby moving in real-time.
Will I get photos or videos of my baby?
Yes! All our pregnancy scans include printed photos for you to take home. 4D scans also include digital images and video clips that can be shared with family and friends.
Do you scan high-risk pregnancies?
We can provide reassurance scans for many situations, but we always recommend that high-risk pregnancies are primarily monitored by your NHS care team. We're happy to discuss your individual circumstances.

Diagnostic Scan Questions

What can an abdominal ultrasound detect?
An abdominal ultrasound can assess the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, spleen, and pancreas. It can detect conditions such as gallstones, kidney stones, liver disease, cysts, and other abnormalities.
How should I prepare for a pelvic ultrasound?
For a transabdominal pelvic ultrasound, you'll need a full bladder. Drink about 1 litre of water an hour before your appointment and avoid emptying your bladder. For transvaginal scans, an empty bladder is preferred.
Do you provide reports for my GP?
Yes, we provide a detailed written report following every diagnostic scan. This can be sent directly to your GP, consultant, or healthcare provider with your consent.
How quickly will I receive my results?
For most diagnostic scans, you'll receive a verbal summary of findings immediately after your scan. The formal written report is typically available within 24-48 hours.
