FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a GP referral for a private injury scan?

No. You can book directly with us — no referral needed. Many patients come to us after sustaining a sports injury, experiencing persistent joint pain, or while waiting for an NHS appointment. If you already have a diagnosis and need follow-up imaging, we can help with that too.

How long does an MSK ultrasound take?

Most musculoskeletal scans take 15-30 minutes depending on the area and complexity. We allow enough time to thoroughly assess the area and explain our findings to you.

Can ultrasound detect ligament and tendon tears?

Yes. Ultrasound is excellent for imaging soft tissue structures including tendons, ligaments, muscles and bursae. It can identify partial and complete tears, inflammation, fluid collections and other abnormalities in real time.

Will I get my results on the day?

Yes — you'll receive a verbal summary of findings immediately after your scan. A detailed written report is provided within 24-48 hours, which you can share with your GP, physiotherapist or consultant.

Is ultrasound or MRI better for my injury?

Ultrasound is often the first-line imaging choice for soft tissue injuries — it's fast, accessible, and excellent for tendons, ligaments, muscles and superficial joints. MRI may be recommended for deeper structures or complex injuries. We'll advise if further imaging is needed after your scan.

How much does a private injury scan cost?

Prices start from £170 for single-area scans. Bilateral (both sides) scans are available at reduced rates. See individual scan pages or our full price list for details.
