Comprehensive Fertility Panels

What We Test

Our fertility blood tests cover the key hormones and markers that determine your reproductive health — for both women and men.

AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone)

The gold-standard marker of ovarian reserve. AMH reflects the number of remaining eggs and helps predict your fertility timeline. Unaffected by your cycle day — can be tested any time.

FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone)

Produced by the pituitary gland to stimulate egg development. Elevated FSH can indicate diminished ovarian reserve. Best tested on day 2-5 of your menstrual cycle.

Progesterone

Confirms whether ovulation has occurred. Tested around day 21 of a 28-day cycle (or 7 days before your expected period). Essential for investigating irregular cycles or difficulty conceiving.

PCOS Hormone Panel

A comprehensive panel including testosterone, SHBG, DHEAS and insulin to investigate polycystic ovary syndrome. Helps differentiate PCOS from other causes of irregular periods and excess hair growth.

Male Fertility Markers

Testosterone, FSH, LH, prolactin and thyroid function — the key hormones that regulate sperm production. Identifies hormonal causes of low sperm count or poor motility before invasive testing.

Is This Right for You?

Who Should Book a Fertility Blood Test?

Women assessing fertility before trying to conceive. If you want to understand your fertility potential before starting a family, an AMH test gives you a clear picture of your ovarian reserve. This helps you make informed decisions about timing without the pressure of trying first.

Considering egg freezing. Knowing your AMH level is the first step in deciding whether egg freezing is right for you. It predicts how well your ovaries will respond to stimulation and how many eggs you might retrieve — information every fertility clinic will need.

Investigating PCOS symptoms. Irregular periods, excess hair growth, acne and weight gain can all indicate polycystic ovary syndrome. Our PCOS hormone panel measures testosterone, SHBG, DHEAS and insulin to help confirm or rule out a diagnosis.

Couples trying to conceive for 6+ months. If you have been actively trying without success, blood tests for both partners can identify hormonal imbalances before waiting the 12 months the NHS typically requires. Male factor infertility accounts for 40-50% of cases — test both partners simultaneously.

Men wanting a fertility check. Our Ultimate Male Fertility Test covers 34 markers including testosterone, FSH, LH, prolactin, thyroid function and key vitamins. Hormonal causes of poor sperm production can be identified and often treated.

Pre-IVF baseline testing. Most fertility clinics require recent AMH and FSH results before starting IVF treatment. Getting these tests done privately means no delay to your treatment timeline — results are ready within 48 hours.

Understanding your ovarian reserve. Whether you are in your late twenties wondering about your timeline, or in your late thirties wanting a clear picture — AMH testing gives you objective data to plan with, rather than relying on age alone.

Your Appointment

What to Expect

Before Your Test

Some fertility tests need to be done on specific cycle days — FSH on day 2-5, progesterone around day 21. When you book, we will advise the best timing for your tests. AMH can be done on any day. No fasting is required for fertility blood tests.

During Your Appointment

A trained phlebotomist will take a small blood sample from your arm — quick, straightforward and minimally uncomfortable. The entire appointment takes approximately 10-15 minutes. Multiple tests can be taken from a single blood draw.

After — Your Results

Results are delivered within 24-48 hours via email. Your report includes your levels, age-specific reference ranges and clear interpretation. If anything requires follow-up, we will flag it in your report.

Next Steps

For a complete fertility assessment, combine your blood results with an Antral Follicle Count (AFC) ultrasound — the two together give the most accurate picture of ovarian reserve. We can also refer you onward if specialist fertility treatment is needed.

FAQs

Fertility Blood Test FAQs

When in my cycle should I have an AMH test?

AMH can be tested at any point in your menstrual cycle — it does not fluctuate significantly between days. This makes it one of the most convenient fertility markers to test. However, if you are also having FSH or progesterone tested, we may recommend specific cycle days for those additional tests and can advise when you book.

What is a good AMH result?

AMH results are age-dependent. As a general guide: above 21 pmol/L suggests a good ovarian reserve, 5.4-21 pmol/L is considered normal to low-normal, and below 5.4 pmol/L indicates a diminished reserve. However, AMH alone does not predict your ability to conceive naturally — it is one piece of the fertility picture. We include age-specific reference ranges with your results.

Do I need both AMH and FSH tested?

They measure different things and complement each other. AMH reflects your egg quantity (ovarian reserve) regardless of cycle day, while FSH indicates how hard your pituitary is working to stimulate your ovaries — elevated FSH suggests your ovaries need more stimulation. Together, they give a clearer picture of your reproductive health than either test alone.

Can men have fertility blood tests here?

Yes. Our Ultimate Male Fertility Test covers 34 markers including testosterone, FSH, LH, prolactin, thyroid function, iron studies and vitamins that affect sperm production and quality. Male factor contributes to around 40-50% of couple infertility, so investigating both partners simultaneously saves time.

How does this compare to NHS fertility testing?

NHS fertility investigations typically require 12 months of trying to conceive (or 6 months if over 35) before your GP will refer you. Even then, waiting times for clinic appointments can be several months. Our private tests give you the same laboratory-grade results within 24-48 hours, with no eligibility criteria and no waiting list. Many patients use our results to fast-track their NHS referral or make informed decisions about private IVF.

Can I combine blood tests with a fertility ultrasound?

Absolutely — and we recommend it for a complete fertility assessment. An Antral Follicle Count (AFC) ultrasound visually counts the developing follicles in your ovaries, which combined with your AMH blood result gives the most accurate picture of ovarian reserve. You can book both for the same visit or separate appointments. Ask us about our combined fertility assessment package.

Combine With a Fertility Ultrasound (AFC Scan)

An Antral Follicle Count ultrasound visually counts the developing follicles in your ovaries. Combined with your AMH blood result, it gives the most accurate assessment of ovarian reserve available — the same tests fertility clinics use before IVF.
