Is This Right for You?

Who Should Book a Health MOT Blood Test?

Annual health check. Even if you feel perfectly well, an annual blood test catches silent changes in cholesterol, blood sugar, thyroid function and vitamin levels before they become problems. Think of it as a service for your body — the same way you MOT your car.

Feeling tired or run down. Persistent fatigue, brain fog, poor sleep or low energy often have a biochemical cause — iron deficiency, vitamin D depletion, underactive thyroid or hormonal imbalance. A full MOT identifies (or rules out) these causes in one appointment.

Family history of heart disease or diabetes. If cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes or stroke runs in your family, regular screening gives you early warning. Our advanced cardiovascular markers go far beyond a standard GP cholesterol check.

Milestone birthdays — turning 40 or 50. Metabolic changes accelerate from your 40s onwards. Hormone levels shift, cardiovascular risk increases, and vitamin absorption declines. A baseline MOT at 40 gives you a reference point for years to come.

Unexplained symptoms. Weight changes, hair loss, mood swings, joint pain, frequent illness or digestive issues can all have metabolic or hormonal causes. Rather than guessing, a comprehensive blood test provides objective data your GP can act on.

Athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Whether you are training for a marathon, lifting weights, or simply want to optimise performance — blood testing reveals iron status, inflammation levels, testosterone, cortisol and recovery markers that affect how you train and recover.

Pre-insurance or executive medicals. Need bloods for life insurance, income protection or an employer health check? Our Full Body MOT covers everything insurers and occupational health typically request, with results in 24-48 hours.

Your Appointment

What to Expect

Before Your Test

Fast for 12 hours beforehand (water is fine) for the most accurate lipid and glucose results. Morning appointments are ideal. Avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 hours before. Take medications as normal unless advised otherwise.

During Your Appointment

A single blood draw covers everything — there is no need for multiple needles or appointments. Our trained phlebotomist collects a small sample using standard venepuncture. The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes.

After — Your Results

Results are returned within 24-48 hours as a detailed report, broken down by category (thyroid, cardiovascular, liver, etc.). Each marker shows your result, the normal range, and a clear explanation of what it means for your health.

Follow-Up

Your results are explained in plain English — no medical jargon left unexplained. If anything requires attention, we provide a GP letter with recommended next steps. Many patients share results directly with their GP to guide treatment.

Why Choose NELS for Your Health MOT?

Comprehensive Coverage

Over 50 biomarkers in a single test — far more than a standard GP blood test. We test what NHS panels typically miss: thyroid antibodies, homocysteine, vitamin D, B12, full iron studies and detailed hormone profiles.

Same Labs as the NHS

Your blood is processed by UKAS-accredited laboratories — the same facilities used by NHS hospitals. Results are clinically valid and accepted by GPs, consultants and insurance providers without question.

Combine With Ultrasound

Add an abdominal ultrasound to screen liver, kidneys, gallbladder and aorta alongside your blood tests. Blood chemistry shows how organs are functioning; ultrasound shows their physical structure. Together, they give the fullest picture.

CQC Registered Clinic

NELS is registered with the Care Quality Commission, meeting the same safety and quality standards as NHS providers. Our clinicians are NHS-trained with years of experience in diagnostic imaging and phlebotomy.

FAQs

Health MOT Blood Test FAQs

What does a full body MOT blood test include?

Our Full Body MOT tests over 50 biomarkers across 9 categories: thyroid function (TSH, T3, T4, antibodies), liver enzymes, kidney function, full lipid profile, cardiovascular risk markers (CRP, homocysteine), hormones (testosterone, oestradiol, cortisol, DHEA-S), vitamins (D, B12, folate), iron studies, full blood count, diabetes screening (HbA1c) and inflammation markers. It is the most comprehensive single blood test available privately.

Do I need to fast before my blood test?

Yes — we recommend a 12-hour overnight fast for the most accurate lipid and glucose results. Water is fine (and encouraged). Your appointment should ideally be first thing in the morning. If you cannot fast, we can still run the test but will note this on your report as cholesterol and triglyceride values may be slightly elevated.

What is the difference between Well Man/Woman and the Full Body MOT?

The Well Woman Profile (£295) and Well Man Profile (£395) cover the essentials: hormones, liver, kidney, cholesterol and key vitamins. The Full Body MOT (£995) adds advanced cardiovascular markers (homocysteine, Lp(a)), comprehensive thyroid antibodies, full endocrine panel, detailed iron studies, diabetes screening, inflammation markers and additional metabolic biomarkers. It is roughly three times the number of markers tested.

How often should I have a full body MOT blood test?

For most adults, annually is ideal — it catches trends before they become problems. If you have a family history of heart disease, diabetes or thyroid conditions, or you are on medication that affects your liver or kidneys, every 6 months may be more appropriate. We will advise based on your results.

Can my GP use these results?

Absolutely. Your results are laboratory-verified to the same standard as NHS pathology. We provide a detailed report that your GP can use for clinical decision-making, referrals or medication adjustments. Many patients bring their NELS results to their GP to avoid repeating tests on the NHS.

What if something abnormal is found?

If any results fall outside normal ranges, we flag them clearly in your report with an explanation of what they mean and recommended next steps. For anything clinically significant, we will contact you directly and can provide a GP letter recommending further investigation or referral. You are never left wondering what to do next.

Add an Abdominal Ultrasound

See inside as well as measuring function. An abdominal ultrasound screens your liver, kidneys, gallbladder, spleen and aorta for structural abnormalities — the perfect companion to your blood work.
