Pregnancy Scan

Private Cervical Length Scan in Solihull & Birmingham

Transvaginal cervical length assessment for pregnancy monitoring at any stage.

About This Scan

A cervical length scan is a specialised transvaginal ultrasound that measures the length of your cervix during pregnancy. This measurement is important for assessing the risk of preterm birth, particularly for women with a history of premature delivery or cervical weakness. The scan is quick, safe, and provides valuable information for your obstetric team to plan your care. It can be performed at any stage of pregnancy when clinically indicated.

What We Check

  • Cervical length measurement
  • Cervical funnelling assessment
  • Internal os status
  • Cervical consistency

Who Is This Scan For?

This scan is recommended for women with a history of preterm birth or late miscarriage, those with a history of cervical surgery (LLETZ/cone biopsy), women carrying twins or multiples, or anyone whose consultant has requested cervical length monitoring.

What to Expect

The scan takes approximately 10-15 minutes. A slim transvaginal probe is used to measure the cervix accurately. This is painless and provides much more accurate measurements than an abdominal approach. The sonographer will explain the findings immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a cervical length scan safe?

Yes, transvaginal ultrasound is completely safe during pregnancy. It uses sound waves, not radiation, and the probe does not reach the cervical canal.

What is a normal cervical length?

A cervical length of 25mm or more is generally considered normal during mid-pregnancy. Your consultant will interpret results in the context of your individual history.
