Private Early Pregnancy Scan in Solihull & Birmingham
Confirm pregnancy and check early development with transabdominal and transvaginal scan from 6 weeks.
About This Scan
An early pregnancy scan provides reassurance during the first weeks of your pregnancy. Using both transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound, we can confirm your pregnancy, check for a heartbeat, and assess early development. This scan is ideal from 6 weeks gestation and is especially recommended if you have had a previous miscarriage, after IVF treatment, or simply for peace of mind. Our NHS-experienced sonographer will guide you through the process in a calm, comfortable environment.
What We Check

Who Is This Scan For?
This scan is recommended for women in early pregnancy who want reassurance, those with a history of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy, patients who have undergone IVF or fertility treatment, or anyone experiencing spotting or cramping in early pregnancy.
What to Expect
The scan takes approximately 15-20 minutes. We will first perform a transabdominal scan with gel on your tummy. If needed for clearer images at early stages, a transvaginal scan may be performed using a small, slim probe. Both methods are safe and painless. You will see your baby on screen and we will explain everything as we go.
Frequently Asked Questions
How early can you scan?
We can perform early pregnancy scans from 6 weeks gestation. Before 6 weeks, it may be too early to see a heartbeat, so we recommend waiting until at least 6 weeks for the most informative scan.
Is a transvaginal scan painful?
No, a transvaginal scan is not painful. The probe is slim and gently inserted — most women find it no more uncomfortable than a smear test. It provides much clearer images in early pregnancy than an abdominal scan alone.
What if you cannot see a heartbeat?
If a heartbeat is not visible, this may simply mean it is too early. We will discuss the findings with you and may recommend a follow-up scan in 1-2 weeks.
