Private DVT Scan in Solihull & Birmingham
Deep vein thrombosis assessment for legs and arms. Urgent scans available.
About This Scan
A DVT (deep vein thrombosis) scan uses compression ultrasound with Doppler to check for blood clots in the veins of your legs or arms. This scan is essential for anyone with sudden leg swelling, calf pain, redness, or warmth — all potential signs of a blood clot. We offer single and bilateral leg scans, arm scans, and combined DVT with venous insufficiency assessments. Urgent appointments are available for suspected DVT, as early diagnosis is critical for treatment.
What We Assess
- Vein compressibility
- Blood flow with Doppler
- Clot visualisation
- Vein patency
- Superficial and deep veins
Who Should Consider This Scan?
Essential for anyone with sudden leg or arm swelling, calf pain or tenderness, redness or warmth in a limb, recent surgery or immobilisation, long-haul travel, or a history of blood clots. Also for patients on anticoagulation therapy needing monitoring.
What to Expect
The scan takes approximately 20-30 minutes per limb. You will lie on the scanning bed while the sonographer uses compression and Doppler techniques to assess your veins. The probe is pressed firmly at various points along the vein — this may cause mild discomfort if the area is tender but is not painful.
Frequently Asked Questions
How urgent is a DVT scan?
If you suspect a DVT, it should be investigated as soon as possible. We offer urgent same-day appointments for suspected blood clots. A DVT can be dangerous if a clot travels to the lungs (pulmonary embolism).
What happens if a DVT is found?
If a blood clot is detected, you will be advised to seek immediate medical treatment — usually anticoagulation medication. We can communicate findings directly to your GP or A&E department.
